Prevention Education & Skills Training
Skills training groups will assist youth in improving self-esteem, decision-making, and life management skills, as well as, giving information about substance use. These groups are typically presented over 8 to 12 weeks, one session per week.
Botvin's Life Skills - An in-school substance abuse prevention and violence prevention program for 6th thru 8th graders. It provides students with the necessary skills to resist social pressure to smoke, drink, and use drugs; helps them develop greater self-esteem, self-mastery, and self-confidence; enables children to effectively cope with social anxiety; increases their knowledge of the immediate consequences of substance abuse; and enhances cognitive and behavioral competency to reduce and prevent a variety of health risk behaviors.
Kids Connection (Rainbow Days, Inc. Curriculum-Based Support Groups) - A program for Pre-K thru 6th grade that teaches essential coping, social, and thinking skills and provides the psychological support that children and youth need to overcome adverse childhood experiences; develop healthy attitudes, intentions and behaviors; and stay drug free.
Project SUCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Efforts to Strengthen Students) - This program prevents and reduces substance abuse among high-risk, multi-problem Junior High and High School adolescents, by placing highly trained REACH staff in the school setting. Components of Project SUCCESS include education and skills training, short-term counseling and problem-solving, and referrals to outside agencies, if necessary.
